BROKEN BEAT..FUTURE SOUL

Early on, my Dad played so many types of music when I was growing up. I was exposed to Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Bee-Gees, Bar-kays, Fela Kuti, The Police, The Beatles, Prince, Jackson 5, The Time, Mizell Brothers, Musical Youth, The Doors, Jefferson Starship, Jimi Hendrix, Ray Barretto, Grover Washington Jr, Bob James, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, George Clinton, Tim Maia, hell Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, I liked 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's music. Just basically different types..but all quality stuff. Those same songs carried over into my adulthood to not listen to music..to "hear" the music..every cord, every instrument, the arrangement, all the way to the vocals.
I didn't listen to bullshit back then, so I'm not going to start now.

I know for me personally I use to be on some straight up on some Hip Hop shit. I know more shit, more b-sides, more underground etc etc.
We had a friendly battle among friends on myspace a youtube..haha hip hop battle on the videos. Not just the regular shit. We were all taken shit way back shit I know you have to be the age of 26 and older to know. But over the years, I have lost my love for HIpHop because of its change good and bad. I know those days of 1988-1996 years we'll never get back. I understand that fully and I am okay with that..really I am. I laugh now these days now when I sound like my parents when talking about music. You know the the old saying " Aww that's not music, That's bullshit!" or "That's not HipHop!!." I love this one the most
"Listen to that shit..They don't make music like that anymore". So funny how music has changed or whatever it's doing now.

Back in California, in the early 90's I got really into house music. It was really because I left the running man, hammer, kid and play shit..and went into that style. Most people in Cali and in Charlotte that know me from the past know I was all about "jacking"(freestyle, housedancing.) I know when you look at that Blu vid and see me dancing..like haha Myk dancing..yeah..I may be a little rusty..don't get it twisted..Elite Force(Mop Top)was my heroes..I'll take back to Lalah Hathaway's "Baby Don't Cry"
on that ass.. that's for my Boy Ryan "Lo-Lifes" and Ahuf..word.
So that also helped with the transition into the sound..of Broken Beat.

I was first introduced to Broken Beat so long ago from my man 100 grand
Steve Hart aka DJ Apex. I can't even remember the first cds I had from him..but I still have them now to this day. A little something about Broken Beat artists mostly have a drum and bass, house, hip hop, techno or acid jazz background. With these backgrounds and influences, broken beat is sometimes considered more "sophisticated" than regular dance music, on the scale of jazz, soul or funk. Broken beat also has its roots in 70's jazz fusion and has been influenced by artists such as Lonnie Liston Smith, The Mizell Brothers (producers for Donald Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey and Johnny Hammond in the mid-70's), Herbie Hancock, George Duke, and others. One might also hear echos of Disco, 80's Rn'B (Shalamar, Prince), early Electronica (Kraftwerk), hip hop (Planet Rock), 80s New Wave (Depeche Mode, New Order), House and Techno in Broken beat.

I'm just not into alot of the music that a couple of friends like. Just not into it and it's okay..just not into it. Straight up it has no soul to me....tried to..um not happening. I know I have let some folks check it out what I'm on. Some have not liked it, some have been like oh I listen to everything but wasn't feeling it.That was not for anybody inperticular..regardless if we just had that conversation
okay Ladybug. I support my friends that spin..I will come and hang but,
I'm not really listening. I feel it's okay thou.
do you. Hey your getting paid to play music..that's cool
but me asking for a mixtape
...ehh..naw no thank you.

I have been wanting to put music on my blog for a while now. I asked Dan about it and since I'm on Blogspot and not Wordpress, I couldn't use the dope flash player they use on old Rogue Status Smog Check, Standard Blog, CtotheJL. So I will use another form of playing music, Not sure how I'm going to do it. This music I listen to now moves me like Hip Hop use to. Some may hate it..don't really give a shit about that. I know that is what I'm into..so that's it. So you can stop the player or stop reading this blog, I write this blog for myself anyways as a documentation of my life and what is surrounds. Life, Family, Love, Friends, Krew, Likes, Dislikes, and what the hell ever I want to put on the thing. So yeah if you hear some beats when you hit the page..stop it or let it play..
Welcome to The Broken United FC..enough said.

Oh Yeah...

Not just Singling Out the DJs that only felt I was talking
about the ones that play Mashups...
that goes for that radio Rap shit too...
Tired of my friends and others say that they
are sick of playing Top 40
and rather play real shit..haha say they
don't wanna play Shorty Lo..
and rather play Dilla
when people make a request..you have it
But..you're still buying the damn music
I seen you in Manifest buying the shit..
yeah make money..do you...
But stop lying to me..like on the Cuban Links album
"don't front for me..if your going to play that role than play it..."
Fucking tighten up!!

I check alot of blogs including hypebeast often just to check out what's up with things. For the few months I have seen these Ecko ads with these models in a manufacturing plant wearing bikinis. I use to wear Ecko way back when they had small ads in the back of the Source magazine. I mean the only people that I seen in the ads was either Black Moon or Duck Down affiliates. I haven't worn Ecko since like 96' or 97'..it's been a long time..don't plan on wearing again.
But the ads are kinda aight to look at..
Um..what they selling again??

MONTRE LIVINGSTON

This is the homie Montre Livingston aka Tre'.
I met Tre back in 2002 at
Methodist Home SkatePark in Charlotte.
Even thou Skaters and Rollerbladers got beef,
We was always cool and shit.
He was laided back and had good energy,
and let his craft speak for himself.
We always did his thing
and had a good head on his shoulders
plus, kept it thoro all day.
No matter what,
you always support the homiez when they are doing positive things.
Plus, he did skate(board)too...
but he was doing amazing shit on the blades thou.
My man for years, Kevin (who also blades) has is krew with another Rollerblade Pro named Dre Powell..and they are young brothas doing the damn thang.
Kev told me Tre' will be going pro next year,
and is one of the fans favorite of their sport and he's not even Pro yet.
So yeah..as a skater from the late 80's I should be like hatin' on Rollerbladers hard like I usually do..
But I always support fam..
so Tre do your thing cuzin..and get money.
Oh yeah check out his clip.
Hell and this old footage..
so think what he's doing now!
Big Shouts to the
Rich Skate Kids camp.

Escobar Season Has Returned.

Photobucket

I had some concerns when I heard that Esco was coming to town. I'm not going lie, It's really because Common let me down when he came to Charlotte. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on Common..I'll save that for a later time. Basically, Common did not do anything old, he changed clothes 6 times, and he did like old hiphop rhymes from other rappers instead of doing his own stuff. I mean I know his audience has changed because he's a sex symbol now..but damn homie.."breaker one nine" or "resurrection"..nope nothing. Qtip opened for him and fucking killed it. He also did Kamaal the Abstract shit plus, killed the Tribe shit and had a full band. Oh word Kareem Riggins on the drums..oh yeah..Common should have opened for Qtip. Anyways, so I was feeling the same way when I seen that Nas, Talib, and Jay Electronica was on the way to Amos.
I have never been so wrong..man was I wrong. My homie D.R. spun in between every set and rocked. Okay Jay Electronica started off the show and did his thing foreal. Talib Kweli next on the stage..ahh yes..his performance was so damn great ..but what else do you expect..it's Kweli.

Okay Nasty Nas time..Homie jumps on stage and does a couple of songs from the new album..cool haven't really checked for them even though Ryan sent it to me. All I know is that he did these songs. From the "Illmatic" album: NY State of Mind, The World is Yours, Life's a Bitch, Represent, One Love, Halftime, Ain't Hard to Tell and more. Then the "It Was Written" album where most of the crowd new the songs "If Ruled the World" with Miss Hill and "Street Dreams" and "Live Ni**a Rap" Without Mobb Deep of course and so much more.
Stillmatic..haha I knew he wasn't doing Ether..damn dummies..like how they played the beat thou. The HipHop is dead shit, Hate Me Now shit, he did oochie wallie, and the Ginuwine crap..but I guess the girls needed to get it too. But he came back strong with yes indeed for those that don't know fucking Main Souce "Live at the BBQ" verse and his verse on "Verbal Intercourse" on Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. I almost passed out on the floor..I couldn't fucking believe it. Steve, Omar, Jimmy, Frazier, Jamaal, Joe, Tony, Bit, Nigel was going crazy..fuck that Ape Shit!!

I'm not even going to get into everything during the show..I know that there were more girls at the Nas show than Dwele..which really don't shock me thou. Well, Nasir covered all aspects, he took care of the US..the "Heads" that has been down since 91', the commercial folks that got in when he got with Lauryn Hill, and the Ladies in the place, and then the rest of the so called fans that was just happy to be there. I apologized silently for doubting Esco, because I was still pissed at Common. I don't know about anybody else I know my Krew was satisfied. Nasir Jones, Thank you for still keeping it thoro all these years. You came to the QC and rocked it son..no doubt.
Nuff Respect
